GIS-Application and Development

We use geographic information systems in particular for the processing of demanding planning tasks such as environmental impact studies, urban development and infrastructure projects.

Research and development (R&D) projects are handled in cooperation with universities, research institutions, companies and public administration. PSU is highly qualified in the application of GIS in environmental planning projects due to the 40-year close partnership with ESRI. A currently important focus is the creation and development of 3D geodatabases in combination with BIM data models.

PROJECTS

LANDING

In the LANDING project, a three-dimensional navigation aid for general aviation pilots was developed to provide navigational support for landing approaches with critical visibility.

3D Pilot

PSU created the 2D and 3D GIS database for the 3D Pilot project on behalf of ESRI and avionTek GmbH.

3D Aerodromes

The 3D Aerodromes project serves the development of 3D visualization and navigation tools for airfields and airports. PSU was involved in the data preparation for the creation of corresponding databases and 3D navigation aids.

INSAG

The overall objective of the joint project "Innovative Use of Satellite Navigation and Terrain Information" was the generation of accurate and highly consistent terrain information and its use for robust position determination in the field.

Safety4Drones

Safety4Drones provides an emergency landing system for drones in order to minimize the risk to humans in the event of technical emergencies or flight disruptions and to recover the valuable aircraft with its instrumentation as undamaged as possible.

RauMoLeS

In the future, electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles (eVTOL) will be used for many applications, including the transport of goods and people, medicines and organs, as well as for safety tasks in urban areas. Since there is hardly any work and data available on the noise impact of these new systems, the joint project RauMoLeS is intended to create important foundations in this area.

Morgenstadt Cologne

As part of the Morgenstadt project phase II, the companies Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute) and Prof. Schaller UmweltConsult (PSU) are developing a three-dimensional GIS database for the analysis and visualization of future scenarios of the Cologne-Mülheim South district under the project management of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in cooperation with the City of Cologne.
